"Captain Caveman" by Anthony Coleman
Graphite pencil and colored pencil on paper | 11" x 14"
Anthony Coleman (b. 1969) was born and raised in Philadelphia. He is a self-taught artist and began drawing his unique portraits at a young age. Fueled by his desire to create, Coleman drew on whatever scrap of paper paper he could find–work schedules, receipts, and notes–cutting out each finished figure and carrying it in his wallet wherever he went. Coleman's distinct style combines the color and mood of cartoons from the 70s and 80s with his one-of-a-kind eye for portraiture. An extremely prolific artist, Coleman has drawn hundreds of portraits, each expertly capturing the unique characteristic of the subject through his own personal style.
During these times of Covid-19, Coleman has forgone working in his Center City, Philadelphia, studio and now temporarily uses his porch as his drawing room.
