With the simplest of mediums, Kevin Babine creates dynamic text-driven works, which are daily narrations influenced by national holidays, local festivals, or a walk to the corner store for coffee. He is inspired by movies such as Godzilla, Dracula, and the Wizard of Oz. New York City with its Rockettes and Dick Clark also fascinate him, as well as details about the weather, which are revealed in a series about hurricanes. Each piece is created with intensity and dedication. The resulting works recall the boldness of Andy Warhol, and the timelessness of the greatest of movie posters. Babine was born in Islip, New York, and now lives in Bath, Maine. His work has shown in Maine, New York, and Washington D.C. Formerly an artist at Spindleworks in Brunswick, Maine, Babine made the decision to retire from Spindleworks in 2021 but continues to create at home.
