ABOUT THE ARTIST
George E. Phillips (b. 1948) uses his art to share his rich interior world with others. Deaf since birth, Phillips often incorporates drawings of hands in motion to communicate his vision of himself, the activities and objects he deems important, and especially his hopes and dreams. Phillips' art is complex and aspirational. His drawings reflect his belief that, like his younger brother, he will one day be married and have two daughters. His wife will be named Linda Dick and his daughters Karen and Kathy. Linda appears to be an amalgam of two girls he knew in his youth. Forty years ago, Phillips was 37 and Linda was 22. These days, Linda has aged to 26 in Phillips' art. Much of his art now focuses on his relationship with Linda, often a wedding complete with cake and a long list of family and friends who will be attending. There are drawings of Linda and infant children with words and signs expressing their importance to him. Phillips also creates detailed drawings of John Deere trucks, tools, and plumbing plans that he will utilize to build his dream home for his family on the farm where he spent his childhood.
Phillips lives in a small group home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Creating drawings is an integral part of his daily routine. Farmer for the Deaf is his first gallery exhibition. For available work and pricing information, please email us at info@sagestudioatx.com.
