Matthew Wright
Matthew S. Wright (b. 1986) grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, surrounded by folk art. He loved seeing how people made work with a variety of resources, which eventually inspired him to become an artist himself. Self-taught, Wright explored acrylic and oil painting with a focus on patterns and textures. However, after seeing George Seurat’s “A Sunday on La Grande Latte” (1884) for the first time, he became mesmerized by pointillism and incorporated the technique into his own creative practice.
Wright’s passion for aviation and history often shines through his work. He’s very active in his local community and can often be found rowing on Ladybird Lake or volunteering for Austin nonprofits. When given the chance, Wright also enjoys jumping out of “perfectly good airplanes.”
